“Learning outdoors can be enjoyable, creative, challenging
and adventurous and helps children and young people learn by experience and grow as confident and responsible citizens who value and appreciate the spectacular landscapes, natural
heritage and culture of Scotland.” (Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning 2010)
The nursery has a large garden, which all children have access
to throughout the day. It has a wide variety of large outdoor physical equipment such as chutes climbing frames, scooters, cars and trikes.
The outdoor facility encourages learning and play throughout various areas, such as imaginative play using the Mud Kitchen
& stage area, Construction, and Natural wooded areas for quiet and exploration.
All staff plan appropriate outdoor experiences to enhance
learning opportunities for all children, linking these to areas
& outcomes within the curriculums.
The nursery has a separate Eco Garden which the children use
to explore the environment, including planting & growing,
bio-diversity, recycling and wildlife. An Eco-Committee made up
of staff, parents & children complete Environmental Reviews
and work towards completing action plans to further the learning & development of this space.
